4 Crucial Tips to make Perfect Leather Edge Coating

Leather crafting is an art that demands attention to detail and precision, especially when it comes to edge coating. The final touch of edge coating not only enhances the aesthetics but also prolongs the lifespan of your leather creations.

In this guide, we'll walk you through four essential tips that can help you achieve the perfect leather edge coating.

Tip #1: Timing is Everything

The journey to achieving the perfect leather edge coating while saving crafting time begins with timing. It's crucial to choose the right time of day for this task.It may take 11 or 12 hours. So I usually I will paint at the end of the day Wait until the next morning for it to dry completely

Tip #2: Grind the edge smoothly before coating

Unleveled areas smooth it out again at the same time Let the first layer of edge oil become rougher so that this second layer of edge oil can better adhere to this

Tip #3: Choosing the Right Color

Generally, we choose black for edge oil.Because black is more versatile And black is the darkest color it can cover most other colors Of course you can also choose other colors. But when it comes to different colors It's actually quite a headache to put together. For example, this brown leather if i go with brown edge oil.The color of vegetable taned leather will become darker with use.But the color of edge oil will not change or even turns light. So it is possible when the bag is just finished, the edge oil is very nice but after years of usage. The color of this bag body is getting darker more and more shiny. But the edge oil is getting shallower and shallower lost its luster. So I usually choose black edge oil. Good looking and durable not easy to make mistakes. The purpose of the oil on the edge is to make it better eaten by the leather.Just let it seep into the leather so as to avoid cracking or peeling off  after a period of time.

Tip #4: Heat the edge coating edge

What is the temperature of heating the edge oil? 360 degrees! If you listen carefully you can hear a tear. The edge oil is burnt penetrate into the leather fibers. We normally repeat these steps 3 times.

- Coat it thin

- Then sand

- Finally burn it form a thin layer of protection

After these steps,it is not easy in places where it often bends or places that often rub damaged too quickly. It's not like those bags available in store. They have thick edge coating where breaks easily when bends after some months.

In conclusion, mastering the art of leather edge coating requires attention to detail, practice, and an understanding of the right techniques.
